However, Shinada allowed 15 runs in 3 2/3 innings, and he set the NPB record for most runs allowed in a debut game. Shinada then stayed in the minors in 1993, and he recorded a 4.31 ERA in 15 games in 1994. He went 2-0 with a 6.16 ERA in 1995, and he had a 4-2 record with a 5.04 ERA in 1996. He then went to the USA, and he went 10-7 with a 3.29 ERA for the 2001 Elmira Pioneers. Moving to Bologna in Serie A1 in 2002, he was 10-4 with a 2.08 ERA and 136 K in 117 IP then had a 1-1, 3.09 record in the semifinals. He was 4th in ERA (between Shane Tonkin and Otoniel Lanfranco), 5th in strikeouts (between John Kelly and Javier Samboy) and tied for 3rd in wins for a fine final campaign. His brother Kansuke Shinada pitched for the Hiroshima Carp in the minors for 3 years, but he never reached the top team.
