Alexandro Tovalín has pitched in the Mexican League and for the Mexican national team. His brothers Adrian Tovalín and Osvaldo Tovalín also played pro ball. [1]
He began his pro career with the 2021 Mariachis de Guadalajara, going 4-0 with a 3.07 ERA in 30 outings, striking out 32 in 29 1/3 IP. That winter, he whiffed 39 in 34 2/3 innings for the Charros de Jalisco, going 6-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 37 games. He was one win behind Mexican Pacific League leader Elián Leyva and tied Marco Antonio Rivas for 6th in appearances. He pitched one shutout inning in the 2022 Caribbean Series despite allowing three baserunners.
Moving to the Leones de Yucatán in 2022, he posted a 8-4, 2.44 record. He tied for third in the LMB in victories. He was 2-0 with a save and a 2.92 ERA for the Navegantes del Magallanes in the winter of 2022-2023 and also was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Gigantes del Cibao, giving him three countries played in over a year's period. With the '23 Leones, he was 4-2 with two saves, a 2.43 ERA and .98 WHIP. His 43 games pitched were one shy of the league's top ten. Suiting up for Mexico in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he made three appearances as they won their first Central American and Caribbean Games baseball Gold (97 years after debuting in that event). He first pitched against Cuba, relieving Fabián Cota in the 6th with a 3-0 lead and one out. He retired Yurisbel Gracial and Erisbel Arruebarruena to end the inning. After Dayán García grounded out to open the 7th, he turned over the ball to Samuel Zazueta, who completed the whitewash of the event's most successful team historically. He also pitched a shutout inning versus the Dominican national team and struck out four batters in 1 1/3 IP against Puerto Rican national team, though he allowed a run that game. He tied for 8th in the Games in appearances, tying Zazueta for the lead on the champs. [2]
The right-hander was 3-1 with a save and a 2.36 ERA for the 2023-2024 Venados de Mazatlán and again pitched briefly in the Dominican League (3 R, 2 ER in 1 IP, this time for the Toros del Este). He slipped to 0-2 with a save and a 4.54 ERA for Yucatán in '24. In the winter, he was 1-3 with four saves and a 4.28 ERA for the Venados.
