He also hit .426/.493/.656 to lead the team in OPS and in steals (10). He still finished 5th in the Bundesliga-1 South in ERA (this was the aluminum-bat era, which helped), 3rd in K (61, behind Martin Helmig and Frank Stattler), tied for 5th in losses, 8th in IP (51) and led in K rate (1.20/IP, .06 ahead of #2 Stattler).

He was 8th in ERA, second in strikeouts (62, 36 behind leader Thomas Jacob), 6th in losses, tied Stattler for 3rd in innings (67) and was 6th in walks (38). In '97, he produced at a .279/.446/.395 clip and went 9-3 with a 3.18 ERA. He was second in the Bundesliga-1 north in ERA (1.17 behind leader Michael Wäller), third with 86 strikeouts (3 behind Andreas Becker, one shy of Michael de Gelmini), tied Wäller for the win lead, was 3rd in K/IP (1.01, behind Becker and René Herlitzius) and was second in WHIP (1.13, .09 behind Wäller).
With Germany for the 1997 European Championship, he was 0-1 with a save and a 6.17 ERA. He led Germany in IP (11 2/3, 2 ahead of Stefan Lang) and strikeouts (12, 5 ahead of Lang) and his ERA was better than the team mark of 6.30. When the Dodgers won the title in 1998, he was 10-5 with a 4.55 ERA and went 2-for-6. He was among the leaders in ERA (7th, between Dirk Fries and Mirko Heid), strikeouts (78, 6th, between Wäller and Stefan Fechtig), wins (3rd, behind Stattler and Wäller), IP (95, 6th, between Fechtig and Claus-Jen Hendricks), 4th in walks (58), 5th in K rate and 6th in WHIP (between Martin Almstetter and Heid). That was his last season in the Bundesliga-1 apparently.
