Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Taveras managed the Dominican Republic national team in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. He had previously played for the Dominicans, winning Silver in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games. In the 1974 Games, he hit .350/.391/.425 with 6 runs and 5 RBI in 10 games. His .929 fielding percentage was the lowest among qualifying second basemen in the Games, but he was 8th in average (between Sergio de la Hoz and Rafael Vega).
