Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Borgo played in the minors and for the German national team.

Borgo was born in Germany and grew up in Canada. He hit .278/.278/.444 for Germany in the 1999 European Championship. [1] In the 2001 European Championship, he was at .313/.439/.531 with 8 runs in 8 games. He led the team in runs (one ahead of Thomas Riedner) and trailed only Klaus Hopfensperger in hits. Not counting the placement games (which were not counted on the leaderboards for the tourney), he tied for 4th in the event with 4 doubles and tied for 3rd with 17 total bases (one behind Rodolfo Veitia and David Sheldon). [2] During the 2003 collegiate season, he was named national player of the week by Collegiate Baseball, the first Canadian so honored. [3] He fell to .231/.259/.231 for Germany in the 2003 European Championship. [4] He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies and split the summer between the Batavia Muckdogs (.255/.407/.511 in 14 G) and Lakewood BlueClaws (.200/.310/.260 in 17 G).
