Alex Ahumada played in the minor leagues and for the Mexico national team.
Ahumada began his professional career with the Boston Red Sox, and he hit .279/.313/.328 in 37 games as a utility man for the GCL Red Sox in 1996. He then had a .222/.286/.266 batting line for the Lowell Spinners in 1997, and he also went 3-for-12 with the Michigan Battle Cats. Ahumada collected 22 doubles while batting .277/.330/.344 for the Battle Cats in 1998, then he crushed 10 homers with a .259/.339/.396 batting line for the Augusta GreenJackets in 1999. He then played 125 games with a slash line of .265/.300/.357 for the Sarasota Red Sox in 2000, and he hit .243/.320/.351 there in 2001. He also went 4-for-15 with the AA Trenton Thunder in the same season.
The Culiacan native batted .243/.312/.314 for the Thunder in 2002, and he also played 24 games with a .247/.356/.301 batting line in Sarasota. He left the Red Sox system after the '02 season, and he hit .263/.363/.347 for the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2003. Ahumada stayed in Monterrey in 2004 (batting a solid .315/.398/.407 in a part-time role), then he went to the Tuneros de San Luis in 2005 and hit .254/.342/.378 with 4 homers. Ahumada improved to .351/.414/.453 with 6 homers in 2006, but he struggled in the winter as he only went 11-for-56 with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo.
Ahumada recorded a .297/.337/.403 batting line for the Dorados de Chihuahua in 2007, and he was 2-for-6 in the winter. He also represented Mexico in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, hitting .366/.409/.488 with 8 runs in 10 games, fielding .935 as their starting shortstop; only Lorenzo Buelna scored more runs for them. He crushed 2 homers with a .312/.345/.395 batting line for the Dorados in 2008, and he played 52 games with a .226/.314/.258 batting line in the winter.
He posted a .253/.315/.293 slash line in 2009, and he hit .241/.305/.287 in 2010. He went to the Piratas de Campeche and batted .289/.363/.369 in 2011, then he recorded a solid .337/.401/.434 batting line for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes in 2012. Ahumada was 4-for-18 in the winter, then he hit .295/.361/.388 in 92 games for the Petroleros de Minatitlan in 2013. He blasted 3 homers and produced at a .273/.321/.414 rate for the Acereros de Monclova in 2014, and his professional career ended.
