Biographical Information[edit]

Al Romero played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues.

Romero represented the USA in the 1980 Amateur World Series. [1] The Kansas City Royals picked him in the 24th round of the 1980 Amateur Draft, and he began his professional career in 1981, splitting the season between the Redwood Pioneers and Salem Senators. He batted .255/.291/.320 in 48 games for Redwood and had a 7-for-24 record in 8 games for Salem. Romero returned to Redwood in 1982 and enjoyed his best season, batting .276/.332/.414 with 12 homers and 16 stolen bases in 137 games. Promoted to the AA Nashua Angels in 1983, Romero hit .235/.285/.333 with 5 home runs in 113 games. Romero rebounded in 1984, and he hit .307/.371/.447 with the Edmonton Trappers and .301/.354/.406 with Waterbury Angels. Romero spent most of 1985 with Edmonton, batting .260/.311/.394 with 6 home runs in 82 games. In 1986, he crushed 5 homers with a .220/.295/.385 batting linein 37 games for Edmonton, and his batting line was .222/.324/.470 with 8 home runs in 33 games for Midland. He announced his retirement after that season.
