Biographical Information[edit]
Akira Kusaka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years. His brother Takashi Kusaka also played in NPB.
Kusaka signed with the Hanshin Tigers in 1954, and he played 64 games with a .211/.262/.281 batting line in his first season. He improved to .275/.324/.464 in 1965, and he recorded a .300/.356/.513 batting line in 59 games in 1966. Kusaka played a career-high 104 games with a .216/.247/.281 batting line in 1967, and he hit .265/.324/.382 in 1968. He slumped to .194/.310/.222 in 1969, and he announced his retirement. Kusaka later became the Speaker of Amagasaki City Council.
Overall, Kusaka hit .243/.295/.356 with 116 hits and 8 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
