Biographical Information[edit]
Akihito Okabe played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Okabe was drafted by the Lotte Orions in the 3rd round of the 1984 NPB draft, and he went 7-for-12 in his first season. He missed most of the 1986 season due to elbow injury, and he played 43 games with a .242/.298/.379 batting line in 1987. Okabe crushed a career-high 11 homers with a .236/.299/.428 batting line in 1988, and he went 8-for-54 in 1989. He was 2-for-8 in 1990, and he hit .275/.342/.348 in 37 games in 1991. Okabe slumped to .206/.229/.353 in 1992, and he announced his retirement after he went 0-for-2 in 1993. He later scouted for the Chiba Lotte Marines.
Overall, Okabe hit .234/.295/.392 with 118 hits and 22 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
