Biographical Information

Akihito Moritani was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 1997 NPB draft, and he only got one at-bat combined in his first four seasons. He led the Western League in steals from 2000 to 2002, and he went 12-for-53 with 6 steals for the big club in 2002. Moritani was 3-for-15 in 2003, and he had a 1-for-16 record in 2004. He was then assigned to the Rakuten Golden Eagles after the Buffaloes merged with the Orix BlueWave, and he was hitless in 8 at-bats in 2005. Moritani went 5-for-22 in 2006, and he announced his retirement after having a 3-for-16 record in 2007. His father Akira Moritani also played in NPB.
