Biographical Information

Akihiro Yamazaki was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 2nd round of the 1979 NPB draft, and he spent his first six seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He went 6-for-15 in 1986, and he was 6-for-20 in 1987. Yamazaki only got 7 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 1991, and he coached the minors team of the Nippon Ham Fighters from 1992 to 2004. He moved to the Chunichi Dragons as their minor league battery coach from 2005 to 2006, and he was the batting coach for the Giants from 2020 to 2021. His son Sachiya Yamasaki pitched in NPB.
