Biographical Information[edit]
Akihiko Horai played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Horai was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 4th round of the 1979 NPB draft, and he played 109 games with a .207/.271/.289 batting line as one of Seibu's starting outfielders in 1980. He hit .246/.315/.362 in 74 games in 1981, and he recorded a .217/.292/.267 batting line in 80 games in 1982. Horai appeared in the 1982 Nippon Series Game 2 and 5, and the Lions beat the Chunichi Dragons in 6 games. He was 6-for-27 in 1983, but he only got one more at-bat for the big club before the Lions traded him to the Dragons for cash. Horai was 5-for-20 in 1987, and he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach for the Shonan SeaRex from 2011 to 2012 and for the Yokohama BayStars from 2013 to 2014.
Overall, Horai hit .223/.291/.309 with 107 hits and 6 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
