Biographical Information[edit]

Abe Alvarez allowed 1 run, unearned, in 1 1/3 IP in the 2002 World University Championship. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2003 amateur draft. Alvarez was signed by scout Jim Woodward and made his pro debut that summer.

Alvarez debuted in Italy on April 9, 2009, as the opening day starter for Reggio Emilia. He tossed six shutout innings against T&A San Marino but was matched by Horacio Estrada and got a no-decision.
