1961 South American Championship
The 1961 South American Championship was the third South American Championship. It was held in Lima, Peru from March 4 to March 12, 1961. Venezuela participated for the first time, replacing Ecuador in the field.
Peru did well as hosts, with a third-place finish at 2-2. They were outscored 25-17.
Argentina was 4th at 1-3, though they only lost 3-2 to Brazil and 4-2 to Peru. They also lost 10-0 to Venezuela and beat Chile 10-0 for a better run differential than #3 Peru. They had the home run leader, Héctor Akiyama.
Chile lost all their games, by a composite score of 40-10; their best game was against #1 Venezuela, only losing 4-2.
