After the last two years of postseason excitement, the Detroit Tigers may be regular contenders again. But before we can look forward, we must first look back at this proud franchise with some all-time names. This is the franchise of Cobb, Crawford, Kaline, and Greenberg, and those are just the old timers. Since 1901, the Tigers have made 18 playoff appearances, won 11 American League pennants, and captured 4 World Series titles. We are going to visit Motown to find out who has blasted the most long balls at old Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park. Here are the all-time leaders in home runs for the Detroit Tigers.

Like their NFL neighbors on the Gulf of Mexico, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays had an inauspicious start to their sports existence. From 1998 to 2007, they lost 91+ games each season and were the last-place doormat in the mighty American League East. Then in 2008, the Devil Rays became the Rays, and the franchise has been the model of success for small-market, financially-constrained teams ever since. They are still stalking that first World Series trophy, but they do have nine playoff appearances, four AL East titles, and two Fall Classics trips. That’s not bad for a team that has one of MLB’s lowest payrolls on a yearly basis and seems to be in a constant tug of war between Tampa and St. Pete. Please hop on this flight to the Gulf Coast of Florida where we will take in the sandy beaches, the freshest orange juice, and the all-time leaders in home runs for the Tampa Bay Rays.

You probably wouldn’t know it, but the history of the Minnesota Twins goes all the way back to the early 1900s. They played in the nation’s capital from 1901 to 1960, alternating names between the Washington Senators and the Washington Nationals. Walter Johnson, one of MLB’s historic pitchers, played his whole career in DC. The franchise moved to Minnesota in ‘61 and got to the World Series in ‘65 (a seven-game defeat to the Dodgers). Then in a five-year span, they won two of the most memorable World Series ever (‘87 and ‘91). Seven players who spent significant time with this franchise have a plaque in Cooperstown. As far as home runs, most of the team’s all-time leaders played in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Get your winter coat as we travel to Minnesota and thaw out the top home-run hitters ever for the Minnesota Twins.

Keeping track of the correct title for the Angels is not an easy task for baseball fans. Let’s retrace their history … from 1961 to 1964 they were the Los Angeles Angels … from 1965 to 1996 they were the California Angels … from 1997 to 2004 they were the Anaheim Angels … from 2005 to 2015 they were the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim … and from 2016 to the present day they have returned to their original name: the Los Angeles Angels. Based in Anaheim, about 27 miles southeast of LA, the Angels have always seemed like the little brother to their neighbor in Dodger Blue. In terms of championships (nine to one) that may be true, but these Angels have a storied tradition too, and that is evident with their list of all-time home-run hitters. In the famous lyrics of their original owner Gene Autry, let’s get back in the saddle again and rope in the all-time leaders in home runs for the Los Angeles Angels.

Probably overshadowed by their North Side neighbors, the Chicago White Sox also have a storied history. Around since 1901, the other Sox have won six American League pennants and three World Series titles (1906, 1917, & 2005). Of course, the infamous Black Sox scandal of 1919 tainted the franchise and the game of baseball. Maybe the baseball gods have punished the team because they have only been back to the World Series twice since then (1959 & 2005) … and in 2024 they set the all-time record with 121 losses in a season. We won’t even touch the fiasco of Disco Demolition Night in 1979. Shifting to a positive note, the South Siders have won six division titles since 1983, and they have produced six AL ROY, five AL MVPs, and three Cy Young winners in team history. Let’s head over to Comiskey Park, but please leave your disco albums at home, and we will reveal the all-time leaders in home runs for the Chicago White Sox.
