Bowman Field, An Overview -- 2002-08-21

Built in 1926 (oldest or 2nd oldest minor league park in the country), Bowman Field has seen floods, many teams, and a face lift. The park once had the Ebbets Field light standards & box seats, but they were removed for new lights and seats. Plenty of bleacher space, half as much space for box seats. The stadium used to hold 5,000, but now holds 4,200 due to a picnic area that is used 25 - 50% of the time. In the new millenium, the park was remodeled on the outside and inside. Bigger bathrooms, a souvenier stand, & food areas were created. Now you must watch out went getting food during an inning, foul balls can hit you while in line. The park has the brightest lights in Single-A, because the Phillies thought the Red Barons might play there until their park was finished, but they never did. Autograph seekers will be happy to know that a 15 - 25 foot walk in the open is required to get to the dugouts, meaning lots of signature opportunities. After the game, be careful on the Williamsport side - it's just a big mass of flesh, part of the stadium exits through the doors next to the clubhouse door, autograph seekers wait for players, the families who adopt a player wait to greet them, kids asking for broken bats (must I continue?). The visitors side is much less congested, plus the team bus pulls right up to the clubhouse door which is towards the levee, 3rd base side.

I still like the pre-remodel Bowman Field better. Somehow it seemed historic, with everything being small by today's standards.

    Great Park -- 2001-09-25

This is a wonderful park to watch a game. I have recently revisited Bowman Field after 30 years of being away from Williamsport. The park and diamond still held my attention and excitement. I remember watching the Williamsport Grey's play the Philadelphia Phillies of Robin Roberts et al. I can also remember Casey Stengle bringing in the origional bumbling Mets and a then young minor league team win with Ron Swaboda. As a teenager I remember thinking his forearms were as big as a tree trunk. Casey delighted us all by putting on an act at a home plate call that he disagreed with. He kicked dust onto the ump's shoes and when thrown out he fell over as if being hit. We all laughed and had a great time. One of many fond memories of Bowman Field and the wonderful game of baseball.

    Great Ballpark! -- 2001-07-08

This is a great place to spend an evening! Prices are reasonable too! A "must" stop for any baseball fan.

Great Little Ball Park -- 2001-06-06

It was a great experience. I got there early and watch batting practice. Take the kids and get there early. Stand outside the left field fence and your kids are bound to go home with a baseball. I purchased a 1st row behind homeplate at game time for $5.50. Make sure you visit the Little League Hall of Fame which is close by. The park is located downtown in a park and very easy to get to. Definitely goind back again this year.
