3/8KFFL.com Hot off the Wire: Nationals | Want Stephen Strasburg to change approach: The Washington Nationals want SP Stephen Strasburg (elbow) to change his approach to pitching when he returns from rehab from...[+] Tommy John surgery, according to SI.com's Tom Verducci. The team wants Strasburg to throw his fastball more often after throwing it only 58 percent of the time last season. 'We'd like to see him use his fastball more,' manager Jim Riggleman said. 'Somewhere along his development he noticed that his changeup became a wipeout pitch for him. I can't tell you whether the catcher was calling for it or he was shaking to it. But we would like to get him back to a higher percentage of fastballs. I think he feels that way, too.' The club would also like Strasburg to lessen the intensity of his fastballs to preserve his arm. His mechanical motion when loading the baseball also puts him at a higher risk for elbow problems, which several scouts noticed before he was injured last year. However, the team is not interested in a complete overhaul of his mechanics.
