Notes On Usage

This dictionary represents a compilation of basic baseball terminology, taken from a Latin American perspective. Thus, this document does not feature an exhaustive guide to formal and informal terms taken from other Spanish speaking regions such as Spain or the Caribbean. There is, however, substantial overlap in terminology across countries and this dictionary should prove useful and informative in a variety of settings. As baseball evolved from the English games of rounders and cricket, the reader will note that in a number of cases the Spanish baseball vocabulary reflects a strong anglicization and, in certain cases, an English word has merely been adopted without alteration.
