Biographical Information

Yuichi Hisamoto was a pitcher in Nippon Pro Baseball. His wife was once employed as a mascot for the Hiroshima Carp.

Hisamoto played for Kawai Gakki in the industrial leagues. The Chunichi Dragons took him in the 4th round in 2001 NPB draft; teammate Daisuke Yamai was chosen two rounds later by Chunichi. He made it to the big club for five games in 2002 (1-0, 4.50) and allowed only 5 hits in 8 innings but three of them were homers. A regular in 2003, he was 1-1 with a save, 3.22 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 67 innings. He had a 1-0, 3.83 record but .297 opponent average in 2004 and was not used in the 2004 Japan Series. That year, he gave up a grand slam to Koichi Ogata; after that, he had severe anxiety that caused him to lose his command. He walked 14 in 22 innings in 2005, going 1-0 with a 6.14 ERA.

Recovering in 2006, Hisamoto went 2-2 with a save and a 1.76 ERA in 27 games. He allowed one run in three innings in the 2006 Japan Series, which Chunichi lost to the Nippon Ham Fighters. In the Dominican Winter League that winter, he learned a changeup while with the Aguilas Cibaeñas. He was 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 2007. He faced three batters in the 2007 Japan Series, hitting one and fanning two, as Chunichi topped Nippon Ham. Hasimoto was injured in 2008 but returned in 2010 (5 R in 6 IP). He had a 1.29 ERA in 10 games in 2011, but he only pitched 5 games in 2012 and the Dragons released him. The Hiroshima Carp picked him up, and Hisamoto was 3-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 43 appearances in 2013. He had a solid 0.82 ERA in first 8 games of the 2014 season, but he then underwent left elbow surgery and his season ended. Hisamoto only pitched one more game for the big club before he announced his retirement in 2016.

Overall, Hisamoto was 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA, struck out 274 and pitched 346 1/3 innings in 12 seasons in NPB.
