Biographical Information

Yutaka Otsuka dominated the New Tokyo University Baseball League, and he went 41-1 with a 1.09 ERA in his college career. He set the league record with a 23-game winning streak, and he won four MVPs and led the league in wins 6 times (Japan playing two seasons a year). The Nippon Ham Fighters took him in the 2nd round of the 2009 NPB draft, and he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2010 season. He allowed 7 runs in 7 1/3 innings in 2011, and he pitched 8 games with a 4.66 ERA in 2013. Otsuka then notched 2 holds with a 3.95 ERA in 14 relief outings in 2014, and he only got 2 more appearances before he announced his retirement in 2016. He had gone 11-18 with 10 saves and a 3.64 ERA in 153 games in the Japanese minors.
