Biographical Information[edit]

Yukihiro Ueda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Ueda signed with the Hiroshima Carp after he went undrafted in the 1982 NPB draft, and he only got 41 at-bats combined in his first six seasons. He got some chances when Hiroshima's long-time starting catcher Mitsuo Tatsukawa was injured in 1989, and he played 65 games with a .163/.214/.301 batting line. Ueda then recorded a .200/.319/.383 batting line in 1990, and he went 6-for-30 in 1991. He only played 21 games in 1992, and he hit .135/.189/.180 in 1993 as one of Hiroshima's regular catchers after Tatsukawa retired. The Carp then traded him to the Seibu Lions for Tetsu Suzuki, and Ueda played 47 games with a .222/.307/.344 batting line in 1994. He was 6-for-51 in 1995, and he announced his retirement after he had a 3-for-12 record in 1996. Ueda later became the battery coach for the Lions from 2001 to 2007 and for the Carp from 2008 to 2019.

Overall, Ueda hit .179/.252/.305 with 102 hits and 16 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
