Biographical Information[edit]

Yuji Yamaguchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Yamaguchi was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 2nd round of the 1983 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He played 63 games with a .206/.236/.275 batting line in 1986, but he only got 10 more at-bats for the top team in the next three seasons. Yamaguchi also recorded a .271/.398/.376 batting line in 99 games for the Salinas Spurs in 1989. He hit .164/.188/.328 in 46 games in 1990, and he was 1-for-5 in 1991. Yamaguchi had a .298/.385/.369 batting line in 1992, and he was named the starting center fielder in 1993 when Hisashi Ono struggled. He played 110 games with a .244/.311/.373 batting line that season, and he tied Norifumi Nishimura and Koichi Hori for 2nd in triples in the Pacific League (6, 3 behind Chihiro Hamana). Yamaguchi went 8-for-29 in 1994 after Hiroki Kokubo took his spot, and he recorded a .211/.252/.316 batting line in 62 games in 1995. He only had 20 more at-bats for the big club before he announced his retirement in 1998.

Overall, Yamaguchi hit .228/.287/.332 with 166 hits and 8 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
