Biographical Information

Yuji Ono played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Ono was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 4th round of the 1986 NPB draft, and he crushed 5 homers with a .231/.280/.435 batting line in 42 games in 1987. He slumped to .120/.179/.160 in 1988, and he hit .277/.295/.378 in 1989. Ono improved to .310/.401/.492 with 5 homers in 57 games in 1990, and his batting line fell to .231/.319/.385 with 4 homers in 1991. The Whales then traded him to the Yomiuri Giants for Junki Kono, and he had a .240/.329/.387 batting line in 51 appearances in 1992. He only played one game in 1993, and the Giants released him.

The Yakult Swallows picked him up, and Ono blasted 5 homers with a .216/.333/.392 batting line in 1994. He was 8-for-29 in 1995, and he crushed a 2-run home run against Yuichi Kiyohara in the 1995 Nippon Series Game 1. He got another hit against Takahito Nomura in Game 4, and the Swallows beat the Orix BlueWave in 5 games. Ono was 8-for-38 in 1996, and he became the first NPB player to hit two come-from-behind pinch-hit grand slam on August 10 against Yasuyuki Yamauchi. However, he only got 5 more at-bats for the big club before he announced his retirement in 1998.

Overall, Ono hit .245/.318/.405 with 190 hits and 27 homers over 776 at-bats in 12 seasons in NPB.
