Biographical Information

Yuji Kanei signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1975, and he only got 2 at-bats combined in his first five seasons. He led the Western League in steals in 1980, and he won the batting title in 1981 while leading the league in steals again. Kanei was 0-for-10 in '81, and he hit .111/.111/.111 in 40 games in 1983. He only played 2 games in 1984, and he announced his retirement. Kanei later coached the Hawks from 1985 to 1987.
