Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshinao Kamata pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Kamata represented Japan in the 2011 BFA U-18 Asian Baseball Championship. He was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 2nd round of the 2011 NPB draft, and he went 7-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 2012. He got his first win in his second game, and it set the team history for fastest to get the first win as a player drafted from high school. Kamata struggled in 2013 as his ERA was 12.51 in 8 games, and he missed the entire 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery. He pitched 4 games with a 6.75 ERA in 2015, and he had a 7-5 record with a 4.14 ERA in 2016. Kamata was 4-3 with a 4.95 ERA in 2017, then he slumped to a 8.53 ERA in 12 games in 2018. He never pitched more than 10 games in a season after 2018, and he announced his retirement in 2022.

Overall, Kamata was 21-16 with a 4.86 ERA, struck out 543 and pitched 363 1/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
