Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshiki Otsuka was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 3rd round of the 1984 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first five seasons; he only played 5 games combined for the top team. He hit .225/.307/.270 in 60 games for the Salinas Spurs in 1990 (he was their most-used backstop, appearing in 48 games there, 12 more than Andy Allanson), and he recorded a .357/.372/.643 batting line in 17 games that year after returning to Japan. Otsuka only got 2 at-bats in 1991, and he was traded to the Taiyo Whales for Hisao Niura. He still didn't get many chances after changing teams, and he only played 5 games combined in the next three seasons. Otsuka was 7-for-36 in 1995, and he went 0-for-4 in 1996 then he announced his retirement.
