Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshihiro Akahane has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Akahane played for the Shinano Grandserows from 2019 to 2020, and he was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 2nd round of the development phase in the 2020 NPB draft; the scout was Chikashi Nakanishi. He spent his first season in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he went 1-for-10 in 2022. Akahane was 4-for-23 in 2023, and he hit .241/.262/.379 in 36 games in 2024. He was Yakult's main utility man in 2025, and he played 103 games with a .209/.259/.283 batting line. He crushed a walk-off homer against Taylor Hearn of the Hiroshima Carp on July 21, and it was originally called a triple, as the ball hit the pole and bounced back into the stadium with Akahane legging it out to third. The Swallows challenged then the call was overturned, and it was the first time in NPB history that a sayonara homer happened due to a challenge.
