Biographical Information

Shortstop Yoshiaki Hirai played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Hirai signed with the Mainichi Orions in 1957, and he shared the starting shortstop spot with Kenichi Nakano in his first season. He played 83 games with a .191/.239/.260 batting line, and he recorded a .222/.233/.278 batting line in 1958. Hirai slumped to .148/.224/.164 in 1959, and he jumped to the Kokutetsu Swallows with a .194/.216/.228 batting line in 1960. He improved to .263/.279/.314 in 1961, and he hit .204/.213/.251 in 83 games in 1962. Hirai went 5-for-34 in 1963, and he announced his retirement after having a 6-for-35 record in 1964.

Overall, Hirai hit .202/.229/.246 with 181 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
