Biographical Information[edit]

Yoide Castillo pitched in the Cuban Serie Nacional and for the Cuban national team.

He debuted for Villa Clara in 1992-1993, allowing 3 runs in 4 1/3 IP. In 1993-1994, he was 1-3 with a 5.48 ERA, then had a 4-2, 7.57 record in 1994-1995. Villa Clara won titles all three seasons.

Castillo missed a year than was dominant at 6-2 with a 1.39 ERA in 1996-1997. He was third in ERA behind Pedro Luis Lazo and Luis Montes de Oca. [1] He slipped to 7-4, 2.98 in 1997-1998 then went 11-5 with a 2.03 ERA in 1998-1999. He trailed Ciro Silvino Licea and Luis Alberto González in ERA [2], tied for 10th in wins, was 7th with 116 K (between Yovani Aragón and Ernesto Guevara) and tied for 4th with 3 shutouts.

That earned him a spot on Cuba's team for the 1999 Intercontinental Cup. He was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Silver Medalists, losing to Australia's Dave White; Australia would top Cuba in the title game as well. [3] Castillo was still solid at 9-5, 2.12 in 1999-2000. He struck out 108, 9th in the league, between Faustino Corrales and Norge Luis Vera. He was 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 2000-2001, his 3 shutouts tying for 4th with Lemay De La Rosa, Vicyohandri Odelín and Vera.

The right-hander was 1-2 with a 5.30 ERA in 2001-2002 and 0-2 with a 10.57 ERA in 2002-2003; one presumes he might have been battling injuries as his production had fallen off so quickly and his playing time had fallen. He missed a season then returned to go 6-5 with a 4.10 ERA in 2004-2005.

Overall, he was 52-35 with a 3.17 ERA in 131 games in Cuba (121 starts).
