Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuhito Uchida played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Uchida represented Japan in the 2013 World Junior Championship. As a DH and corner infielder, he hit .314/.368/.343 with 10 runs in 9 games for the runners-up, handling 18 chances error-free. He tied Li Lin for second in the event in runs, one behind Kuo-Hao Wu. The Rakuten Golden Eagles selected him in the 2nd round of the 2013 NPB draft, and he went 1-for-17 in 2014. He stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2015, and he hit .204/.259/.389 in 17 games in 2016. Uchida then had a .234/.311/.417 batting line with 18 homers in the minors in 2017 , and he led the Eastern League in homers and RBI; he went 1-for-21 with the top team though.

The Fukushima native crushed 12 homers with a .198/.259/.435 batting line in 2018, and he was the first player to be drafted by the Golden Eagles after high school and hit 10 homers in NPB (the first Rakuten-drafted player to hit 10 homers was Hiroaki Shimauchi in 2017 from college). It was his only season with over 100 AB (he had 177, backing up Zelous Wheeler at 3B and Ginji Akaminai at 1B). He suffered from a left foot injury in 2019, so he only played 2 games for the big club. He then blasted 5 homers with a .172/.284/.366 batting line in 2020, and he went 11-for-54 in 2021. Uchida was 1-for-10 in 2022, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Uchida hit .178/.246/.353 with 76 hits and 20 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
