Whitewash
Whitewash is a slang term for a shutout, derived from the practice of applying a white lime-based paint to a wall or other objects due to its anti-bacterial properties. White wash was typically cheaper than paint and was used to hide any imperfections on the receiving surface. The word can be used both as a noun and as a verb.
The French equivalent of the term, "blanchissage", remains the standard translation of shutout in that language.
