Virgilio Veras caught in the Dominican amateur league for 25 years, never hitting below .300. He was on the Dominican national team in the 1976 Amateur World Series; his obituary lists other events but doesn't match up with the lists from Ecured for the 1972 Amateur World Series at least. He strongly encouraged the Cleveland Indians to sign Bartolo Colon.
