Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Víctor Mesa is the son of Cuban baseball legend Víctor Mesa and the brother of Victor Victor Mesa. He is also known as Víctor Mesa Jr. He and his brother defected from Cuba in October 2018 and both signed with the Miami Marlins as international amateur free agents shortly afterwards. While his brother's career stalled and he retired, Víctor Jr. reached the majors in 2025.

He had a good first pro season in the U.S., hitting .284/.366/.398 in 47 games as a 17-year-old with the GCL Marlins in 2019. he was then forced to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic, but came back to hit .266 in 112 games for the Jupiter Hammerheads in 2021 and was named an organizational All-Star. However, his next two seasons, in 2022 and 2023, were less impressive, as he hit .243 and .242 respectively, with an OBP just over .300 both years. He played in AAA for the first time in 2024, appearing in 80 games for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the International League and hitting .259/.319/.430, with 13 homers and 51 RBIs.

He started the 2025 season on the injured list, then was back at Jupiter for 10 games on a rehabilitation assignment before heading to Jacksonville on May 17th. After just 6 games, during which he hit .300, he was called up to Miami on May 26th and made his big league debut that same day, coming in as a defensive replacement in centerfield in a game against the San Diego Padres. He struck out in his only at-bat.
