Biographical Information

Pitcher Victor Mederos went to five different schools - three high schools and two colleges - before being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 6th round of the 2022 amateur draft. Less than a year later, on June 30, 2023, he made his debut with the Angels, pitching 2 innings in relief in a 6-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks and giving up one run. In 3 appearances in the majors that season, he gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. He again spent most of 2024 in the minors, making just 4 appearances in the Show. He allowed 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings for an ERA of 11.81, and his first career decision was a 6-4 loss to the Texas Rangers on September 7th.

While he was born in Cuba, he arrived to the U.S. with his family at age 6 and grew up in Florida, where his favorite player was Jose Fernandez, His older brother is also named Victor. He is a trained barber, and his services became so popular among teammates with the AA Rocket City Trash Pandas in 2024 that the team's clubhouse manager purchased a used barber chair for him and installed it in the clubhouse so he could dispense his services more comfortably.

He achieved a rare distinction pitching for the Atlanta Braves on July 17, 2026, as he hit a two-run single as a pitcher in a 15-1 win over the Rangers. In that game, he had taken over on the mound for Chris Sale after 7 innings with Atlanta holding a comfortable 12-0 lead. The Braves also made a number of defensive changes at that time, including removing 1B Matt Olson from the game and replacing him with DH Dominic Smith. That removed the use of the DH for the remainder of the game, and when Texas sent back-up C Kyle Higashioka to pitch the bottom of the 8th, the Braves continued to pile on the runners, which means Victor came up to bat and delivered the run-scoring hit. He was the first true pitcher to get a base hit in the majors since the introduction of the universal DH in 2022, excluding Shohei Ohtani and the odd position player who had managed a hit while pitching mop-up duty. He gave up one run in two innings in that game as the Braves cruised to a 15-1 victory.
