When linking to a page, be careful about players where more than one major leaguer had the name - ex. Frank Thomas links to the Hall of Famer, the 1950s-1960s slugger is at Frank Thomas (thomafr03). Usually, there'll be a disambiguation page - if you enter Bobby Jones, you get a list of both Bobbys and both Bobs. - --Mischa (talk) 16:44, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, I noticed your correction this morning. I'll have to be on the watch for this. --Mark Armour (talk) 16:49, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Good work getting this part of the site going Mark. I also saw your call for volunteer editors in the latest SABR bulletin, and one of the early responders is now on board and had begun contributing. Keep it up! I'll be happy to help if you have any technical or other questions along the way. --Philippe (talk) 14:26, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
One issue people have add is that when they search for "Baseball cards" they go to the page for "baseball card" (there is a redirection) and there is no obvious way to get to our main page. Is there a better way to organize this so that they can find the new material? Since our page links to "baseball card" in its very first sentence, it might be better our main page actually was titled "Baseball cards" and the old redirection was removed? Or perhaps there is a better solution? Thanks for the help and support. --Mark Armour (talk) 19:21, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
Your page is a category page, so it won't come up in a simple search. Let me put in a hat on the baseball card page so that it's easy to find the page you're working on for someone who is not familiar with the site. --Philippe (talk) 23:10, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
You could move most of the top material from the Category page to the baseball cards page. Usually, a category page has a brief summary (ex. Settlements in Pennsylvania or Players who have represented Canada in the Baseball World Cup, World Baseball Classic, Intercontinental Cup or other major senior-level tournaments other than the Olympics. For players who appeared only in the Olympics and not in any of the above, see Category:Olympians). Category pages are more for listing everything in that category than for including many details. - --Mischa (talk) 19:24, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Many of the people in our SABR group want the player names to link to images of the cards (depending on the card being referred to. We are not going to upload thousands of images, but is there a problem with linking to an external site that has the image? --Mark Armour (talk) 06:53, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
A link to an external site would go towards the bottom under "Related Sites" --Jeff (talk) 08:02, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
I might have a page with 100 specific cards listed. I am asking about having each of the player names to directly link to an external site which would contain (in its entirety) the image of the card (front and back). 1989 Ken Griffey Jr., and his name would link to http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/136/cid/0/1989-Upper-Deck-1-Ken-Griffey-Jr. --Mark Armour (talk) 15:49, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
I think that would be okay. - --Mischa (talk) 16:20, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Absolutely, put in the url within single brackets, with a space separating the last character in the url from the title you want to give that link, for example Ken Griffey Jr. 1989 Upper Deck card #1, to use the link you provided above. --Philippe (talk) 18:12, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I missed what you were asking. What Philippe suggests is perfect. --Jeff (talk) 18:35, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
I recently expanded significantly our bio of Tommy Leach and relied a fair bit on your bio of him in Deadball Stars of the National League as this was one of the best sources I could find. If you can think of other information to include that did not make the cut into that book, please add it. Also, if you can trace back any of your sources, feel free to change the references accordingly. Thanks for all your work on the Leach bio! - --Mischa (talk) 18:16, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
