Biographical Information[edit]
Tsuneo Chonan signed with the Toei Flyers in 1962, and he only pitched one game in 1963. He was then turned into an outfielder, and he hit .301/.336/.381 in 120 plate appearances over 77 games in 1964. Only Isao Harimoto had a better average for the '64 Flyers. Moving to first base, Chonan slumped to .171/.213/.233 in 1965, and he and Katsuo Osugi backed up Norm Larker. He was hitless in 15 games in 1966, and he went 10-for-53 in 1967. Chonan batted .116/.191/.209 in 1968, then he announced his retirement after having a .143/.200/.143 batting line in 1969.
Overall, Chonan hit .201/.250/.264 with 73 hits in 7 seasons in NPB.
