Biographical Information[edit]
Toyoshi Sakai signed with the Hankyu club in 1944, and he hit .240/.356/.270 in his first season. He played 72 games with a .273/.346/.380 batting line in 1946, and he went 16-for-88 in 1947 then he left the team. When the Hiroshima Carp were founded in 1950, Sakai joined them but his batting line was .166/.219/.206 in 102 games. That was the lowest batting average for a qualified batter in the 2-league era. Sakai announced his retirement after that season.
Overall, Sakai hit .214/.288/.276 with 167 hits and 2 homers in 4 seasons in NPB.
