Toshio Choshi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years
Choshi hit .305 with 4 homers and 3 Best Nine awards in the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League, and he hit .400 to win the batting title in the 1982 spring season. He was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the first round of the 1983 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Hikaru Takano. He hit .144/.168/.192 in 56 games in 1984, then he went 1-for-20 in 1985 and 7-for-23 in 1987. Choshi broke out in 1988, and he played 125 games with a .271/.311/.304 batting line as Taiyo's starting third baseman. He then batted .281/.318/.371 in 1989, but he lost his spot after Yoshiyuki Shimizu shined in 1990. Choshi hit .279/.397/.328 that season, and he had a 7-for-34 record in 1991. The Whales then traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Takashi Osanai, but he only got 19 at-bats with the big club before he announced his retirement in 1993. He later coached the Yokohama BayStars from 1994 2006, and he was an assistant coach for Hosei University in 2020.
Overall, Choshi hit .256/.300/.313 with 278 hits and 3 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
