Biographical Information[edit]
Toshihiro Iwao pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Iwao was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the third round of the 2009 NPB draft. He spent the first years in the NPB Farm Leagues, and debuted on August 10, 2010. Iwao also represented Japan in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, making one appearance. Starting against Taiwan, he lasted only two innings. He struck out four but allowed four hits, two walks and four runs (one earned) then Hideki Sunaga took over.
The Oita native was in the ni-gun from 2011 to 2012, and allowed 13 runs in 10 1/3 innings with big club in 2013. He had a 2.70 ERA in five games for the Melbourne Aces in the 2013-2014 Australian Baseball League. He improved and pitched 20 innings with a 1.80 ERA in 2014, but then slumped to a 6.52 ERA in 21 games in 2015. Iwao only pitched 2 more games in 2016, then announced his retirement after the 2017 season.
Overall, Iwao was 3-0 and a 6.11 ERA and pitched 66 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
