Biographical Information

Torai Fushimi has caught in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Fushimi represented Japan in the 2010 World University Baseball Championship. He was picked by the Orix Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 2012 NPB draft, and he spent his first five seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 65 games combined for the big club. He hit .274/.325/.376 in 76 games in 2018, but his batting line fell to .164/.278/.213 in 2019 before he torn his Achilles tendon and missed the entire season in June. Fushimi recorded a .259/.281/.413 batting line in 2020, then he had a .218/.268/.324 batting line in 2021. He was 2nd in CS% in that season, only behind Takuya Kai's .452. In the 2021 Nippon Series, Fushimi went 1-for-8 and the Yakult Swallows beat the Buffaloes in 6 games.

The Hokkaido native played 76 games with a .229/.274/.341 batting line in 2022, and he tied the NPB record by having 6 assists in a game as a catcher on June 9. He went 6-for-16 in the 2022 Nippon Series, and the Buffaloes beat the Swallows in 7 games. Fushimi then signed with his hometown team - the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, and he hit .201/.241/.262 with 3 homers in 89 games in 2023. Fushimi batted .242/.267/.273 in 62 games in 2024, and he went 2-for-6 in the 2024 PLCS with a homer against Carter Stewart in Game 3 of the final stage; the Softbank Hawks still swept the Fighters.
