Kawamoto slumped to 4-7 with a 6.35 ERA in 1954, and he only pitched 4 games in 1955. He recorded a 3.06 ERA in 18 relief outings in 1956, and he went 4-9 with a 3.06 ERA in 40 games in 1957. Kawamoto had a 3.83 ERA in 33 appearances in 1958, and he announced his retirement. He later became the pitching coach of the Carp from 1966 to 1967.
