Biographical Information[edit]

Tiago Costa pitched for the Brazilian national team in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup. He made two appearances. Closing out a 8-3 loss to Italy in the opener, he was a bright spot, working 3 1/3 shutout innings (1 H, 3 BB) after replacing Douglas Assada. Starting against Taiwan, though, he was rocked for four hits in five batters, including a Feng-An Tsai homer, yielding four runs; Leonardo Omori took over. Interestingly, his shortstop, also named Tiago, would go on to a much more prominent pitching career - Tiago Da Silva would spend six seasons in AAA and was still active 22 years later. He allowed one run in 1 2/3 IP in the 2003 Baseball World Cup; playing a game at DH, he was 2 for 4 with a double and a run.
