Biographical Information[edit]

Submariner Takeo Mizobe played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Mizobe signed with the Hankyu club in 1937, and he went 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA in the spring season and 3-9 with a 3.09 ERA in the fall season. He then enlisted into the military and missed the next three seasons. Mizobe returned in 1941 with a 2.38 ERA in 9 appearances, and he was 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 1942. He had a 5-10 record with a 2.22 ERA in 1943, and he missed the next two seasons due to military service. Mizobe was 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA in 1946, but he slumped to 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 1947. He walked four consecutive batters when the bases were loaded on April 20, and he set the NPB record. Mizobe went to the Osaka Tigers in 1948, but he had a 6.88 ERA in 8 appearances and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Mizobe was 22-30 with a 2.79 ERA, struck out 149 and pitched 519 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
