Biographical Information[edit]
Takeo Matsui signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1956, and he was 1-2 with a 3.26 ERA in his first season. He went 4-9 with a 3.63 ERA in 1957, and he suffered from a shoulder injury so he only pitched 5 games combined in the next two seasons. Matsui then became an outfielder, but he didn't get a single at-bat before he announced his retirement in 1962. He later became a scout, signing Kazuhiko Endo.
Overall, Matsui went 5-11 with a 3.50 ERA, struck out 72 and pitched 197 2/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
