Biographical Information[edit]

Takashi Sakata was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 5th round of the 1970 NPB draft, and he was 0-for-10 in 27 games in 1972. He was mainly used as a pinch-runner and outfield defensive sub, and he played 72 games with a 5-for-22 record in 1973. He scored 15 runs with a 0-for-9 record in 1974, and he hit .333/.429/.542 in 29 plate appearances over 56 games in 1975. Sakamoto went 6-for-19 in 71 games in 1976, and he slumped to .211/.295/.263 in a career-high 88 games (47 PA) in 1977. He had a .203/.235/.219 batting line in 1978, and he announced his retirement in 1979. Sakata coached the minors team of the Hawks from 1980 to 1982, and he was their fielding coach from 1983 to 1985. In 462 games, he scored 189 runs and went 34-for-44 in steal attempts while totaling 215 plate appearances.
