Biographical Information[edit]
Takao Yamao played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Yamao signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1963, and he pitched 5 games with a 6.30 ERA in his first season. He was then turned into an outfielder, and he never got more than 50 at-bats a season in the next five seasons. Yamao finally got some chances in 1969, and he played 71 games with a .219/.305/.316 batting line that season. He recorded a .259/.336/.356 batting line in 94 games in 1970, and he hit .243/.288/.307 with 7 doubles in 1971. However, Yamao's spot was taken by rookie Mitsuru Mochizuki in 1972, and he announced his retirement after having a 5-for-22 record.
Overall, Yamao hit .222/.289/.294 with 176 hits and 12 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
