Biographical Information[edit]

Takao Suzuki signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1961, and he hit .303/.378/.515 in 32 games in his first season. He appeared in the 1962 Nippon Series Game 2 as a pinch-runner, but he was retired by Minoru Nakamura and the Hawks lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 6 games. Suzuki slumped to .107/.167/.143 in 1962, and he was 0-for-8 in 1963. Since the Hawks already had superstar catcher Katsuya Nomura, Suzuki didn't get many chances. He only had 35 more at-bats for the big club, and he announced his retirement in 1968. He later coached in the Nankai/Daiei Hawks system from 1969 to 1990, and he was their top team battery coach for 4 years. His son Toshio Suzuki also played in NPB.

Overall, Suzuki hit .183/.241/.269 with 19 hits in 8 seasons in NPB, spreading 110 games out over that period.
