Biographical Information[edit]

Takanori Hoshi caught in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Hoshi was a 6th-round pick of the Yomiuri Giants in the 2004 NPB draft. He made his debut on October 4, 2005. The next day, he singled off John Bale for his first hit; he was 1 for 3 on the year. He was 1 for 5 with a double in 2006, spent the next two years entirely in the minors and was 0 for 5 in 2009. He spent 2010 in the minors as well. During these years, Shinnosuke Abe was the starting catcher for the Giants. Hoshi's grandparents were killed in the tsunami that struck Natori, Miyagi on March 11, 2011; both were found dead within the next ten days. Hoshi was then traded to the Seibu Lions for cash, and he played 40 games with a .242/.286/.303 batting tine that season. He was 3-for-21 in 2012, and he went 5-for-28 in 2013. Hoshi only got 13 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 2016, and he was the minor league battery coach for the Lions from 2017 to 2019 and for the Rakuten Golden Eagles from 2020 to 2022. Tohoku Gakuin University named him their new coach in 2023.

Overall, Hoshi hit .191/.224/.234 with 27 hits in 7 seasons in NPB.
