Biographical Information[edit]

Tadakatsu Hanyuda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Hanyuda signed with the Seibu Lions after he went undrafted in the 1982 NPB draft, and he spent his first six seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He also recorded a .220/.315/.249 batting line in 71 games for the San Jose Bees in 1985, and he played 13 games as a defensive replacement in 1987. Hanyuda hit .367/.476/.436 in 70 games for the San Jose Giants in 1988 (had he qualified, he would have led the California League in average), and he had a .258/.333/.303 batting line for Seibu in 1989. He played 47 games with a .239/.270/.352 batting line in 1990, but he collided with the fence on October 12 and missed the rest of the season due to a left knee fracture.

The Ibataki native went 17-for-62 in 1991, and he had a special training plan before the 1992 season. In order to improve his concentration, Hanyuda practiced karate in the freezing mountains. However, he had severe frostbite and missed most of the season. Hanyuda only played 24 games in '92, and he recorded a .277/.352/.351 batting line in 1993. He hit .292/.373/.360 in 73 games in 1994, then he slumped to .133/.212/.133 in 1995. Hanyuda suffered from a severe right elbow injury, and he failed to return to the top team before he announced his retirement in 1997.

Overall, Hanyuda hit .258/.323/.327 with 115 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
