TVA Sports
TVA Sports is a French-language sports cable network based in Quebec. It was launched in September 2011 as the first direct competitor to Réseau des sports; it added a second channel in 2014.
TVA Sports is the property of Groupe TVA, which originated from the first privately-owned television station in Quebec. It was the network's first real foray into sports, which were until then the monopoly of Société Radio-Canada and RDS. One of its major properties, in addition to its bread-and-butter hockey coverage, is the live broadcast, in French, of Toronto Blue Jays games. It has used long-time Montreal Expos broadcasters Jacques Doucet and Rodger Brulotte to describe the games from a studio in Montreal, QC; other analysts on baseball telecasts have included former major leaguer Derek Aucoin and minor leaguer Karl Gélinas, and veteran play-by-play man Denis Casavant. TVA Sports broadcasts other major league games when the Blue Jays are idle and split playoff broadcasts with its rival RDS.
While for a number of decades, RDS covered the World Series every year, that changed in 2023 when the two networks struck a deal to cover the event in alternate years, with TVA Sports getting the rights in odd-numbered years starting that season.
